Read table output#
Automexia gives recognizable tables clear rows and aligned columns so you can
compare results with less visual searching. Use it to review a wide kubectl
result, a build report, or supported header-and-row output. The command's
original text stays intact. This guide describes the current public source;
older packages may behave differently.
What changes on screen#
Supported whitespace-aligned, Markdown, ASCII-framed, and Unicode-framed tables can gain borders, aligned cells, and wrapping within a pane. Recognition uses the structure, not a command name: a table from your own script can be eligible too. The original terminal cells, colors, cursor, and copied text remain authoritative. Decorative borders and additional visual line breaks are not added to your clipboard.
For example, run a normal command that prints NAME STATUS AGE followed by rows. If its header and gutters are unambiguous, the rows can align in the active pane. If your script prints loose prose, JSON, CSV, or a truncated hard-wrapped row, Automexia leaves it as ordinary terminal output instead of guessing a schema. A colored Kubernetes readiness field reflects observed text, not proof that a cluster is healthy.
Open the focused table viewer#
- Optionally select a complete table in the terminal if several are visible.
- Open
Ctrl+Shift+Pand choose Tools → View Table Output. The Automexia profile also providesCtrl+Shift+F7; check the palette for your effective binding. - Pan with Left/Right or a horizontal gesture; scroll with Up/Down, Page Up/Page Down, or the wheel. Home/End reach horizontal ends.
Ctrl+Home/Ctrl+Endreach the first/last row and column. - Choose Copy all or press
Ctrl+C/Cmd+Cto copy source text without visual borders. Press Escape to return.
Without a selection, the viewer seeks the most recent recognizable table near the current scroll position. It captures a read-only snapshot; the shell continues underneath. Close and reopen to see new rows. While the viewer is open, typing, paste, file drops, and IME commits are not passed to the shell.
Examples and limits#
- Compare a wide result: select a complete
kubectl gettable, open the viewer, and pan right without resizing the terminal or rerunning the command. - Copy a report: use Copy all when you need the command's actual text in an issue or file, not Automexia's presentation borders.
- Missing formatting: check for a header plus data row, complete output, and enough pane width. A tiny pane or ambiguous layout falls back to plain text. Enlarge the pane or use the producing tool's own structured export.
The reader does not fetch cloud data, change the command, infer health from resource names, or persist the snapshot. Settings for borders and stripes live in Customization; status-color choices are separate from table geometry. See Commands and shell workflows for command-result grouping around tables.
